Romania’s oldest string instrument maker, since 1951.
Founded in 1951 in Reghin, Romania, by master luthier Roman Boianciuc, the Hora workshop began by producing 37 violins in its first year, a figure that rose to 435 the year after. By the late 1950s production had expanded to guitars and mandolins alongside the bowed string instruments, before shifting in the 1960s from workshop production to large-scale manufacturing.
Hora describes itself today as the largest and oldest musical instrument maker in Romania, in operation for more than 70 years. Its range covers bowed string instruments — violins, violas, cellos, double basses — and classical guitars, made from local spruce and maple from the Carpathian Mountains, naturally seasoned over several years.
