Savarez
A French string maker whose history goes back to eighteenth-century gut-string manufacturing.
Born in 1770 when the Savaresse family, originally from Italy, settled in France, the house Savarez first worked hand-ground gut before exploring silk, steel and bronze and brass windings. Over the course of the twentieth century, it adopted nylon and perfected its grinding and gauging processes, going on to offer, around 1950, classical guitar sets available in several tensions.
Now based near Lyon, in Caluire-et-Cuire, the brand keeps a string-maker's know-how applied to the classical guitar, but also to the violin and bowed instruments. In the workshop, Savarez is valued for the consistency of its string sets and the breadth of its tension range, which allows string choice to be matched to the musician's touch and the character of each instrument.
